Located in Virginia Beach, VA, The Ruff House Stay & Play at Bayside offers the same expert care as our Greenbrier location, but with a more individualized environment that can accommodate shy dogs, seniors, and pets who simply prefer their own space.

Here, boarding is our bread and butter. Whether your pet is with us for a weekend or a week, you can trust they’ll be well cared for by our experienced and compassionate team.

We offer a variety of pet care services designed to meet your pet’s unique needs:

Standard Canine Boarding

Guests stay in climate-controlled, spacious indoor enclosures featuring comfy bedding, food (dry provided at no cost, wet food option available for $3/meal), and fresh water, along with plenty of TLC from our dedicated staff.

The Ruff House Stay & Play at Bayside is the only boarding facility in the heart of Virginia Beach offering indoor/outdoor enclosures. This gives our canine guests the freedom to move between the two at their leisure.

For dogs who aren’t suited for group play, individual play time sessions are available to provide physical activity and mental stimulation. Our boarding staff follows each guest’s routine closely, offering gentle care, regular potty breaks, and plenty of love.

Luxury Staterooms

The Ruff House Stay & Play Bayside is owned and operated by former Naval officers. We’re honored to say 10-15% of our clientele hail from military families. That’s why our luxury “staterooms” are named after ships, stations, and units where our family proudly served.

All staterooms feature raised Kuranda beds, soft lighting, and relaxing bio-acoustic music. Private potty breaks throughout the day and a “tuck-in” treat at bedtime provide a bit of extra pampering, while also offering a more relaxed option for older or more sensitive pets who prefer a quieter atmosphere.

Feline Boarding

Our quiet, spacious cattery offers multi-level luxury townhouses, as well as open kitty condos, to accommodate all our feline friends. Comfortable bedding, natural pine litter, and bio-acoustic music specifically matched to feline biorhythms create a soothing, serene environment, while window perches, climbing and scratching trees, and various other enrichment items reduce stress and optimize relaxation.

Exotic Animal Boarding

Do you love little critters? So do we! Let us care for your “exotic” animals while you’re away from home. We can accommodate ferrets, rabbits, rats, hamsters, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, gerbils, and mice. Please note that while we offer special accommodations for small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs, some animals may require a cage and supplies provided from home to ensure optimum comfort during their stay.

Dog Daycare

Our daycare program is designed to provide ample exercise and mental stimulation for your pet. Indoor and outdoor play spaces offer plenty of opportunities to run and explore, while playgroups are based on size and play style to ensure everyone is enjoying themselves. We maintain a low dog-to-staff ratio to ensure safe, attentive supervision throughout the day.

All daycare staff are trained in Pet CPR and Emergency First Aid, and we’re committed to staying current on the latest canine behavior and handling best practices, so your pup always receives informed, enriching care. We also offer Day Boarding for dogs who don’t do well in social group settings (additional fees apply). This includes potty breaks, staff attention, and a calm, structured environment tailored to your dog’s individual needs—without the pressures of group interaction.

Grooming Services

Our full-service and award-winning grooming helps your pet look and feel their best. We specialize in breed-specific hair cuts, sanitary trims, dematting, baths, brush-outs, nail trims, ear cleaning, and other routine care. A la carte upgrades like teeth brushing, de-shedding, and anal gland expression are also available. Appointments are open to all guests, whether your pet is boarding, enjoying daycare, or just dropping in for a fresh look. We take a gentle, low-stress approach to every groom.
